How does the timer work?
How to start and stop the timer, what is written when it stops, and what happens if it is forgotten.
The timer counts the time on a project while you work, and at the end writes it into Team › Me › My time. It is off by default; it is switched on under Team → Time recording → Timer, when the office records time. While it is off it appears nowhere.
How do I start the timer?
With ▶ on the project's header, on the «Time» tab, on a work item, in Planning, on the Timeline, on any row of Team › Me › My time or in its strip, where you pick a project and press ▶ Start. It only starts on an open project. Each person has one timer at a time: if you start a second, you are asked first, and the first one's time is kept as a suggestion.
What is written when it stops?
Stop… shows how much time it will write — you can correct it. Stop and save writes it as an ordinary entry on the day it started; Discard writes nothing. Under a minute, nothing is suggested.
| The office's unit | How it is rounded |
|---|---|
| Hours | To the half hour, at least half an hour |
| Days | Half a day if the time is under three quarters of the office's day, otherwise one |
What happens if I forget it?
On a day the office is open, once its closing time has passed (in «Office hours»), the strip in Team › Me › My time turns red and you get a notice; on a closed day, or if you started it after closing, this happens after the number of hours the office has set. At 12 hours it stops by itself and the time waits as a suggestion marked «Needs a check».
If the office switches off the timer or time recording, any timers still running stop and are kept as suggestions — nothing is lost.
