# What is the customer portal, and what does the customer see?

> How to open the portal, what the customer sees, which files you show them and what they can send you.

The **customer portal** gives a customer their own way into the progress of their project. It is off by default; it is switched on, and what it shows is set, under **ErgoWeb → Settings → Customer portal**.

| Section | What the customer sees or does |
| --- | --- |
| Projects and progress | Their projects and where each stands — on from the start |
| Documents | The files you show them, and what they upload to you — on from the start |
| Offers | Every offer you sent them, in its latest version; they can answer until it stops being valid |
| Messages | They write to the office; the conversation arrives in ErgoMail |
| Video calls with customers | They join a video call from the portal (ErgoMeeting is needed too) |

### How do I invite a customer?

From the customer's profile, in the **Customer portal** box, send an invitation to their email; each customer has one account, and a new invitation replaces the old one. The customer signs in with a six-digit code sent by email, or with a Google or Microsoft account.

### Which files do they see?

None until you choose: on a file of the project or of a work item, the **Visible in the portal** switch shows it. Internal files (expenses, notes, offer costing) cannot be made visible. Whatever the customer uploads (PDFs, images, Word documents) arrives in the project, and its lead is notified.

Portal invitations and files are handled by whoever creates projects:
